Our Doula
Birth Actually was founded by Hidya Sahid to provide personalized woman-to-woman support for pregnant women and guiding their birth partners, through a holistic approach of care with evidence-based childbirth education. From her personal experiences and throughout her work as a birth professional, she realized that support is still severely lacking for many families.
Her goals include preventing birth trauma and postpartum depression, which are common among mothers during/after childbirth. She works hard to ensure that her clients are taken care of during their births and that every family gets a chance to establish a successful breastfeeding journey.
Experience
Doula Hidya has been supporting pregnant mothers since 2016, and breastfeeding mothers since 2012 respectively. She believes that every mother deserves to have the support that she needs during such important life events. An avid volunteer, she is passionate about helping her community & dedicates a portion of her time providing pro-bono antenatal education, doula support & consultation to young, unsupported mothers/couples. She is passionate about postpartum and newborn care and is also a breastfeeding counsellor. Her interest in functional food/medicine and women’s health has led her to constantly look for ways to help her clients optimize their pregnancies, working towards achieving good and safe birthing experiences. She enjoys her doula work tremendously, guiding & teaching couples in their preparation during pregancy, birth and beyond.
Being in this profession means that seeking knowledge is a life-long journey of work in progress to enhance a doula's skills. Doula Hidya had the honor of learning from several experts in their respective fields such as Slyvie Setu (IAIM), Ines Fernandez (Arugaan) & Lisa Levine (Arvigo), among others.
